Riebeek Kasteel - Olckers Residence
Pr.Engineer Mark Labrum designed the structure for Olckers Residence, a two-storey dwelling in Riebeek Kasteel. Cobute supplied its precast systems for slab for 100 sqm and a staircase.
Cobute precast slab system
The Cobute precast decking system consists of three elements, namely precast ribs, interlocking panels and polystyrene blocks, which are delivered to site cut to size to avoid wastage. The use of polystyrene does not only contribute to the light weight of the structure (97kg/sqm) but also assists with thermal insulation. This, in turns, ensure a reduction of energy consumption of the structure, especially if paired with additional solutions with an elevated R value.
The system allows for minimal timber shuttering that reflects on the site budget and total wastage on site.
Cobute precast staircase system
The Cobute stair consists of 5 elements, light to handle and easy to install on site. The left and right girders form the R.C. frame of the element, which is then filled by precast ribs and panels. Before casting, risers are installed. Each staircase is custom-made according to the job requirements; a straight flight of stairs can be installed, ready for casting, in roughly 2 hours by 4 labourers. For this project, the staircase was used to connect the lower ground to the ground floor.
