Cobute edge ribs

The precast edge rib is a permanent concrete edge shutter, manufactured with the elements of the Cobute precast beam and rib systems.

The edge rib replaces timber shutters that would increase not only the amount of waste on site but also installation speed while improving the finishing. Its applications include:

  • edge to stairwell

  • edge to cantilever balcony

  • edge to roof slab

TECHNICAL DETAILS

The edge rib consists of an L shaped rib, with zigzag steel and a concrete edge. The Engineer design specifies both the steel reinforcement of the edge rib, as well as the height of the side panel, which ranges from 150 to 300 mm. When used combination with the slab system, the rib can include a lip. Once poured, the permanent shutter forms the outer side of a concrete edge, without requiring any carpentry work.

The system can include a lip (right image) to ease the installation of the Cobute slab panel.

Edge ribs are used as shutters in combination with the precast decking system, to avoid the use of timber shutters and therefore speeding up the installation time.

When used for roof slabs, the Cobute edge rib creates a monolithic connection with the slab, which avoids shrinkage cracks, usually occurring between masonry and concrete when bricks are used.
